Sai Sudharsan and Kagiso Rabada Intensify IPL 2026 Orange and Purple Cap Races After Gujarat Titans’ Big Win

Gujarat Titans crushed Sunrisers Hyderabad to revive the IPL 2026 Orange Cap and Purple Cap races with new faces changing positions. It was a satisfying day on the pitch for Gujarat, who bossed the match at Ahmedabad with both bat and ball; an effort that helped lift the franchise right up near the top of the points table.

The biggest discussion point from the contest revolved around Sai Sudharsan’s position in the run scoring race for the Orange Cap. The young Gujarat opener played another patient knock scoring 61 off 44 balls to maintain his fine form this season. The knock saw him briefly go to the top of the run-scoring charts, before he was eventually unseated by Heinrich Klaasen heading into the final game. Klaasen still tops the list with 508 runs, but Sudharsan has jumped incredibly close with 501 in 12 Matches

The performance of Sudharsan has been one of the biggest strengths for Gujarat this season. He has been a rock-solid opener, complementing captain Shubman Gill to give India one of the most reliable opening partnerships of the tournament. Gill is again one of the highest run-getters in IPL 2023 and will certainly be in the race for Orange Cap as the league stage heads into its crucial last leg.

Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Abhishek Sharma is also still among the top scorers even with his side not managing to do well against Gujarat. KL Rahul stays another serious contender in the race, putting forth pressure with steady performances all through the round.

Purple Cap has become equally competitive. Gujarat bowler Kagiso Rabada had rocked Match 62 against Hyderabad with a three-wicket haul, climbing to second in the most wickets taken list. Bhuvneshwar Kumar of Royal Challengers Bengaluru now joins Rabada at the top with 21 wickets this season. However, Bhuvneshwar is still holding on to the Purple Cap due to his far superior economy rate.

Gujarat’s bowling unit played a major role in this contest, with Rashid Khan being effective yet again during the middle overs. His economical spell also lifted his place among the tournament’s leading wicket-takers. For Hyderabad, the collapse was orchestrated with some stellar supporting roles from Prasidh Krishna and Jason Holder too.

As we get to the final weeks of the league, both individual awards are still very much in contention. From here on, every innings and spell could seek to alter the standings creating an exciting finale of IPL 2026 with personal milestones going side by side as players jostle for playoff qualification.
